Recycling 'part and parcel' of good citizenship
Recycling household waste has now become a key factor in being a good citizen, it has been claimed.
Earlier this week, the Local Government Association (LGA) warned that Britain could run out of landfill space within the next eight years if recycling rates do not increase.
It warned that Britons should not be surprised to see council tax rates go up in order to fund new and improved recycling initiatives.
However, Waste Watch has said that far from being annoyed at having to pay more to have their household waste recycled, people should see this as part of being a good citizen.
Spokesman Mike Webster noted: "[Britons] are getting more and more used to [recycling] and it is part of their normal life really.
"I am positive about that but it is definitely something that children just need to learn in life at a really young age – that it is just part and parcel of being a good citizen."
These comments come soon after Defra confirmed that the government is to undertake a full review into the current waste policy in England.
